How Does Energy Monitoring Work?

Powersensor is a sophisticated energy monitoring system that tracks electricity consumption in real-time by using advanced sensing and measurement technologies. It is solar system / inverter and meter board agnostic.

The system typically consists of several key components:

1. Sensor Hardware

  • For energy measurement by detecting current flowing through cables, by placing a sensor inside your meter board by placing near or on your meter board fuse/s

  • Solar energy measurement (production, export and consumption) by placing on your inverter conduit

  • Designed to provide non-invasive measurement without interrupting electrical flow and no electrician

2. Data Collection Process

  • The Sensor current is sent by secure cloud storage where our patented algorithms convert the signal into power and energy data for your home

  • The sensor communicates over WiFi to the cloud and Bluetooth to the plug for real-time updates every 30 seconds

  • The Powersensor WiFi plug acts as a gateway for live data to your app, it helps with the learning process and it monitors an appliances energy consumption

  • The WiFi Plug also allows the sensors to transmit data directly and in real-time to the Powersensor mobile app. The plug also provides appliance level monitoring by monitoring the energy consumption of the connected appliance

  • Calculates real-time power consumption (watts)

  • Tracks energy usage over time (kilowatt-hours)

3. Data View

  • The Powersensor app is available for free to download on your Android and Apple devices

  • No subscription fees or ongoing costs

  • This is where you can see your home’s energy data (consumption and generation) from a household down to an appliance level

4. Analytics and Reporting

  • Sophisticated software platforms interpret raw sensor data

  • Provides detailed energy consumption breakdowns

  • Offers insights such as:

    • Hourly, daily, and monthly energy usage

    • Cost estimates

    • Potential energy-saving opportunities

    • Anomaly detection for unusual consumption patterns

5. Key Monitoring Capabilities

  • Appliance-specific energy tracking

  • Real-time consumption

  • Historical usage comparison

  • Energy Insights

6. Typical Applications

  • Residential energy management

  • Commercial and industrial facility monitoring

  • Data centre power consumption tracking

  • Renewable energy system performance analysis

  • SME asset energy tracking

  • Energy audits

  • Electric vehicle charging infrastructure

  • Small to medium businesses
