Everything you need to know about the expanded VIC Solar Homes solar panel rebate

The popular VIC Solar Homes program has just announced that their solar rebate will be available for homes that are still under construction.

Solar Victoria’s Solar Homes program has been successful in helping Victorians save on energy efficient improvements to their homes. Over the past four years, the program has helped over 117,000 eligible homeowners install rooftop solar at a lower upfront cost.

The Solar Homes solar panel rebate was introduced to encourage more Victorian residents to start generating their own clean energy, in turn reducing the state’s carbon footprint. It offers up to a $1400 rebate to install a solar system with the option to take out an additional interest free loan of up to $1400 - that’s up to $2800 in savings! However, only existing homes were eligible for the program until late August 2022.

As of 24th August 2022, the VIC Solar Homes PV rebate is available to existing homes as well as homes that are still under construction, which will allow authorised solar providers to wire a rooftop solar system directly into a new build. There are a number of benefits to this approach, most notably lowering solar installation costs for the homeowner. Victoria has around 40,000 new builds a year. The government hopes that this new addition to the solar rebate will increase the number of new builds that are equipped with solar PV systems. Below is a visual of the steps you’ll need to take to apply for the solar rebate program.

If the Solar Panel (PV) rebate isn’t the right option for you, Solar Homes offers financing options for home solar batteries and solar hot water, as well as options for renters/landlords, businesses, and not-for-profit community housing.
