Your Quick Guide To Apply For The 2022 WA $400 Household Electricity Credit Offset

Energy prices are rising across the world, and Australian governments are stepping in to help residents with one-off electricity credits. The Western Australian government is offering an energy credit to all households in order to help with the global energy crunch. This article will give you all the details you need to know to apply for the WA Household Electricity Credit (HEC 2022).

Who is eligible for the HEC 2022?

The HEC 2022 is available to all WA households that were paying energy bills on 12th May 2022. Each residential address is eligible to receive one $400 credit if the property incurred electricity costs at 12th May 2022 and:

  • the property was used solely as a place of residence or home business (commercial properties are excluded) and

  • you were an owner-occupier or a tenant.

If you are billed by Horizon Power or Synergy, the $400 credit will be applied directly to your power bill. If you are billed by any other electricity provider you will need to apply for the credit online. You are also able to transfer your credit to a new address if you are moving house.

How do I apply for the HEC 2022?

If you aren’t a Synergy or Horizon Power customer and you need to apply for the HEC 2022, you will need to register with RevenueWA. Once your registration is complete, you will just need to log in, navigate to ‘Electricity Credits’, and fill out the form.

When applying, you will need to provide:

  • a copy of your identification document

  • a bank statement for the nominated account

  • a copy of the lease agreement (if you are a tenant)

  • an invoice for electricity costs covering 12 May 2022. If your property is on an embedded network or sub-meter, provide the invoice from a third party (strata management, caravan or retirement management company) recouping the costs from you as owner or tenant.

Important dates:

  • 12 May 2022 - Address must have had an electricity account open on this date to receive the HEC 2022

  • 26 June - First day to apply for the HEC 2022 if you are not a Synergy or Horizon Power customer

  • 1 July 2022 - All Synergy customers will automatically have the $400 credit applied directly to their account

  • 2 July 2022 - All Horizon Power customers will automatically have the $400 credit applied directly to their account

  • 31 October 2022 - Final day to apply for the HEC 2022 if you are not a Synergy or Horizon Power customer

  • 31 December 2022 - If you are a Synergy or Horizon Power customer and you are moving house/have moved house, you must contact your provider and apply for a transfer of your credit by this date, otherwise it will be returned to the WA government.
